Wood Group PSN
Wood Group is an international energy services company comprising three businesses – Wood Group PSN, Engineering, and Wood Group GTS – providing a range of engineering, production support, maintenance management and industrial gas turbine overhaul and repair services to the oil and gas and power generation industries worldwide.
Wood Group PSN was established in April 2011 through the merger of Wood Group’s production facilities business and PSN, an independent ‘brownfield’ service contractor.
Employing over 26,000 people in more than 35 countries, Wood Group PSN specialises in the delivery of pre-operations, hook up and commissioning, operation and maintenance, engineering, construction, project management, training and decommissioning services. It is one of the world’s largest providers of brownfield services to the energy industry.
During the production phase of an oil field, Wood Group PSN’s services are designed to enhance the performance and extend the life of oil and gas production facilities. Services are also available in the preceding, development phase, during which engineers and experts can design the infrastructure, ensuring that the most cost effective and safest methods of construction, installation and completion are employed. Wood Group PSN can also manage construction and commissioning activities during the preparation phase, the execution phase or as part of a fully integrated construction and commissioning service.
Wood Group PSN has been operating in Uganda since 2010. Initially, the company was engaged by Tullow Oil to design oilfield infrastructure, including a pipeline, wellhead and gas-fired power plant. Design of the pipeline and additional infrastructure was carried out by the company’s specialist engineering teams in Colombia. During this period, the company employed up to 15 engineers in its Kampala offices. Since then, the company has engaged in work for Tullow Oil, providing electrical supervisors and camp supervisors in the region.
With Kampala set to become a regional operations hub for future east African business, the company is targeting new business opportunities in Tanzania and Mozambique, where new offshore gas fields have been discovered.
