Habib Oil

Image: Habib Oil logoHabib Oil is a Ugandan downstream oil and gas specialist based in Kampala. The business has been trading for six years and is focused on the oil a gas supply chain—connecting refiners with end users in the East Africa region. They engage in the supply, logistics and marketing of petroleum products– petrol, diesel and jet/kerosene, as well as heavy fuel oils, bitumen lubricants and other industrial products.

Currently, the company buys and sells these products from sources external to Uganda–predominantly in the Persian Gulf. The customer base includes Total Uganda, Delta Petroleum, Electro-Maxx, African Power Initiatives and Rwenzori Commodities.

Within Uganda, Habib Oil has concluded the takeover of the Sarope chain of petrol stations, and will roll out a network of distribution depots and fuel stations which will see the company consolidate the bulk product supply process while moving into the retail sector.

In 2010, Habib opened an office in Kenya, integrating the company with the regional oil supply chain currently controlled by the Kenyan market, and enabling Habib to move into the import and refining of crude oil through partnership with the Kenya Pipeline Company.

Although not directly involved in oil exploration and production projects within Uganda, these activities are

likely to present the company with a key revenue opportunity when oil production begins in 2015-2016. Habib Oil has entered into dialogue with Uganda’s international oil partners with a view to playing a part in the proposed construction of a refinery.

The company also has a minority stake in Tamoil East Africa Ltd., which has the contract to build the US$ 250 million Kenya -Uganda oil pipeline.

HabibOil aim to become one of the top five bulk petroleum products supplier in East Africa over the next three years.

Habib Oil is part of a larger group of companies owned by Alhaj Habib Kagimu who also serves as Chairman of the Board. The range of businesses encompasses oil, properties, telecommunications, restaurants and security services.
